Accept the Things I Cannot Change
And Change is Constant…
Greetings,
A tough lesson in life is accepting that we can’t always change things. What can’t we change? People and social media are two examples.
People
When it comes to people, we can plant a seed, but we can’t make them grow it. In fact, unconditional love is all about accepting someone as they are.
I get it; this isn’t an easy lesson. However, attempting to force someone to change often causes them to rebel or do the opposite.
Decades ago, I was working with a client who was difficult and wasn’t ready to change. It was so frustrating, and I had to let her go.
She reached out to me a couple of years later and told me she was ready. My client mentioned she saw me with a group of people outside a New Jersey diner, and we were hugging each other. In that moment, the seeds I planted – bloomed!
Proof of the power of allowing a person to change at their own pace.
Social Media
LinkedIn and Substack are what I use in my business. In the past, I’ve spent too much time on Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter (X).
Every time one of these platforms makes a change, people get angry and complain. Why can’t they leave things alone? I hear you!
Here’s the thing: it’s the owners and/or boards’ right to do what they feel is right for their company. No matter how many people disagree. They are testing things out, trying to make improvements, and believe it or not – making money.
This is why I urge people never to create their business on social media because it’s not yours. Social media is similar to renting an apartment. The landlord can ignore repairs, reconstruct the property, raise the rent, sell the property, or evict you.
What You Can Change
Your attitude is what you can change to accept the things you cannot change.
People
For people you want to change, try the following:
Love the person enough to allow them to be who they are.
Plant the seeds, but don’t shove them down their throats.
Walk away from them if they are hurting you.
Reach your highest potential so that it ripples out to others.
Social Media
One of my goals for 2025 was to spend less time on social media because it’s addictive. Here are some things I have done:
Pop in for a limited time, maybe ten minutes.
Go on LinkedIn three days a week.
Unplug from LinkedIn on the weekends.
Ignore and/or delete scammers and unpleasant people.
Last Thoughts
Life is better when we change our attitude and/or let go of what we can’t control. What can’t you control? How did you deal with it?
My book, Personal Growth Affirmations, is great for planting seeds and is available at my bookstore and other retailers.
